The Mendocino coast is known for it’s gorgeous rocky beaches but bowling balls on the beach? Why yes! They are large (rare) round sandstone formations that can be seen at low tide. There’s more info here on how they are formed and here is how to reach this unique little gem!
Don’t be discouraged by the rope to get down to the beach, it’s not too far down and super easy to use just stick your booty out a bit and it makes it easier to rappel down the 15 feet. Once you get down enjoy the view of the ocean! Then head north to reach the crazy rock formations! I would highly recommend checking the tides before you go. They are best seen at low tide.
Now don’t make the trip up there without either having a picnic on the beach or exploring other places nearby. It’s a bit of a drive but so worth it to see these crazy rocks! After this we went to Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve (post to come soon) then on to Fort Ross Winery.
