Nature Lover

Did you see me on the side of the road, top down (the car top not mine!), standing on the seat of my car poised and ready to take fall foliage shots of a gorgeous winery in Sonoma? Did you laugh as you drove by or think to yourself ‘wow! I’d love to get that shot too!’? Great things happen when my hubs drives us around topless and I have a camera in my hand. I get to see everything! And yes, I also feel the need to take pictures of everything. If I did not take the picture of the exact moment in time, would anyone else have ever seen what was captured? Probably, but I like to think some of the photos are preserving points in time.

We are truly enjoying learning our new fancy camera. We both know we need lots of instruction and practice which is why I (we) are participating in the Photography 101 class put on by WordPress. We are getting great tips and challenges. Today’s challenge is the Natural World – “A good photographer is a constant observer: always watching and studying a scene, from patterns in city traffic to movements in nature. Capture the natural world with your camera: document a moment outside, big or small. Exploring the outdoors, with camera in hand, is an opportunity to look for natural lines that lead our eyes to different parts of a frame.”

So I scrolled through pics we took this past weekend while enjoying the fall foliage surrounding us. Here’s a couple that I feel are appropriate for today’s assignment. The roads help your eyes wander through the picture.

  1. I like the second image from the top, very nice composition and great leading lines to the top. Did you try cropping a bit from the bottom up so there is only foliage? You have a good eye for composition and place. Dang I missed the topless pictures 🙂

    1. Thank you for the feedback! I hadn’t thought of cropping it but it does look nice as just foliage. Glad you got my joke about driving around topless! We often giggle about it.

  2. Hey there, I found you via the NaBloPoMo blogroll.

I did a photography tour on Oahu – Oahu photography tours if you happen to be heading there in the future – five minutes with the tour leader changed my photography for the better forever. He showed me how to use a few settings I would never have touched before. 🙂

As part of NaBloPoMo I try to comment on as many participating blogs as I can, and I also add participating blogs to my feed reader.

So I’m just dropping by to let you know I’ve added your blog to my feedreader, I’m reading you loud and clear, I have a link up going at my place so my readers can find participating blogs which you are more than welcome to add your blog link to.

Looking forward to seeing your posts, and you’ll likely see me drop by again during November.

    Happy NaBloPoMo to you!

  3. Lovely photos! I want to visit California one day! It reminds me of the Mediterranean a lot (I come from Greece).

    1. Thank you! I hear Greece is beautiful! My dad has traveled the world and when I asked him where he would go back to again he said Greece. We live in a gorgeous place but oh how I would love to travel more and see the world!

  4. These look great! I especially like the very first one – good composition and lines. I like your learning style by the way – sounds like a fabulous “classroom.”

    1. Thank you! Kunde (the first 3 pics) is a gorgeous winery just about 15 minutes from us and the vineyards are beautiful year round.
We do enjoy learning by doing. Now that the rain has stopped we will definitely be getting out and snapping more pics!
